December 6th is Colorado Gives Day, Colorado’s biggest giving day of the year! In this post, we’ll tackle all of your Colorado Gives Day questions.
What is Colorado Gives Day?
Colorado Gives Day is a day to give where you live and support Colorado nonprofits. It has taken place on the first Tuesday of December since 2010. Colorado Gives Day has grown to be Colorado’s largest 24-hour giving event, raising a total of more than $362 million for nonprofits across the state. Colorado Gives day is a program of the Community First Foundation and can be found online at ColoradoGives.org.
Last year, over $5.5 million was raised on Colorado Gives Day for local nonprofits. For Colorado Water Trust, 176 people gave over $30,000 to support our work to restore flows to Colorado’s rivers!
Is Colorado Gives Day the same as GivingTuesday?
No. GivingTuesday is a global day of giving and takes place on November 29th – the Tuesday after Black Friday. You are welcome to donate on GivingTuesday as well but it’s a separate event from Colorado Gives Day.
How much of my donation goes to Colorado Water Trust?
If you choose to cover the 3.99% processing fee of your donation on ColoradoGives.org, 100% of your gift will go to Colorado Water Trust.
In addition, Colorado Gives Day donations receive a “boost” from a $1.4 Million Incentive Fund! For example, if a nonprofit receives 5% of the total money raised for Colorado Gives Day, that same nonprofit also receives 5% of the total Incentive Fund.
Last year, our total amount raised was a little less than .6% of all the funds raised on Colorado Gives Day, so we received approximately .6% of the Incentive Fund, minus processing fees.
Do I need to schedule my gift for Colorado Gives Day?
In previous years, donors had to schedule their gift to be processed on Colorado Gives Day in order for it to count towards the Incentive Fund. This year, any gift made between November 1 and December 6th through ColoradoGives.org will count toward Colorado Gives Day and the Incentive Fund
Can I just give on the Colorado Water Trust website?
We always welcome donations on our website but in order for your gift to count toward the Incentive Fund, please donate at ColoradoGives.org. Every gift on Colorado Gives Day helps us further our work and increases the portion of the Incentive Fund we receive as well!
