Fraser River – Winter Park Ranch Water & Sanitation District

This short-term lease of water rights benefits local rivers near Fraser, Colorado during dry years.
 
Through 2020, the Winter Park Ranch W&SD Project has restored over

million gallons

acre-feet

of water to St. Louis Creek and the Fraser River in Grand County.

How Did This Project Come to Us?:  

The Board of Directors for Winter Park Ranch Water and Sanitation District saw an opportunity to support their home river and worked with Colorado Water Trust to explore their options.

Tools Used:

Instream Flow (ISF) Water Acquisition – Temporary ISF Lease (This short term lease utilizes some of the Winter Park Ranch Water and Sanitation District’s water rights to supplement streamflows in St. Louis Creek and the Fraser River in times of need.)

Project Partners:

Colorado Water Conservation Board, Winter Park Ranch Water and Sanitation District, Bonneville Environmental Foundation, Bishop-Brogden Associates Inc (Project Consultant)

Project Years:

A 10-year approval for the lease was approved in 2013, but has yet to be used.
