Support the Yampa River!
JOIN US IN BOOSTING FLOWS IN THE YAMPA RIVER DURING THIS DRY YEAR WHEN THE RIVER IS IN GREAT NEED.
Since 2012, Colorado Water Trust has worked with numerus partners to support the Yampa River, purchasing and releasing over 13,850 acre feet (4.5 billion gallons) of water to the river when it suffers from low flows and high water temperatures. At times, our boosted flows have accounted for over half of the flow of the Yampa River.
We need your help to keep the river flowing!
Please consider giving back to the Yampa River today by supporting Colorado Water Trust’s project.
In 2021 Colorado Water Trust:
- Purchased and released 1,850 acre-feet (602.8 million gallons) of water from Stagecoach Reservoir and boosted flows in the Yampa River during critical low flows. For much of the late summer, half of the Yampa River consisted of water we contracted for.
- Signed a 10-year agreement with the Upper Yampa Water Conservancy District for future purchases of water – streamlining our process for leasing and restoring water to the Yampa River in real-time for the years to come.
In 2022 Colorado Water Trust Will:
- Purchase and release up to 5,750 acre-feet (1.87 billion gallons) of water from Stagecoach and Elkhead Reservoirs to boost flows in the Yampa River. Our goal is to avoid high temperatures that impact fish and other species in the river, and also to avoid recreational closures that impact the economic industries tied to the river.
- Raise local dollars to support our project so we have enough funding to purchase the water needed to keep the river healthy throughout the hot and dry months.
Our total project will cost roughly $280,000 in 2022. We have already raised some funds from the local community and are working to raise the final $36,831.
